The current CDC guidance calls for “source control.” This means that people are to wear face coverings that “help prevent respiratory droplets from travelling into the air and onto other people.” Most state and local entities reference the current CDC guidance on face coverings. Unlike a standard face shield, The Humanity Shield™, with its integral barrier cloth, specifically meets the CDC recommendations and helps reduce transmission of respiratory droplets.

In addition to protecting others, the Humanity Shield™ also protects the wearer. The clear plastic shield provides an impenetrable barrier to droplets that would land on the sensitive nose and mouth areas, plus provides protection for the eyes (which is another known method of virus transmission).

The integrated barrier cloth wraps around the sides of a wearer’s face and below the chin, helping to prevent respiratory droplets from traveling around the edges of the shield. Between the ability of the fabric to entrap particles and the longer travel path, the Humanity Shield™ helps prevent small aerosols from getting deep into the respiratory tract, which is a key concern of epidemiologists.

Considering the current recommendations for cloth masks (without any standards) and an imprecise knowledge of how Covid-19 transmission works, scientists have not developed any PPE that provides any type of guarantee. However, the design of the Humanity Shield™ incorporates specific considerations that maximize the effectiveness against transmission, while providing a level of comfort that encourages keeping the PPE in place. We feel that it is the best tool available in the fight to protect ourselves, friends, and family. That’s why we make them and why we wear them.
